We are currently looking for:

1 economist, mother tongue French, capable of writing in English to a high standard. A knowledge of basic statistical methods and PC office packages (MS Word, MS Excel and MS Access very useful). General interest in European economic affairs and business issues.

To work in the following area:

• analysing European business statistics and writing economic analysis on the European business sector - typically reports on different economic sectors (e.g. motor industry, retail trade sector, construction sector), or reports on specific topics (e.g. small and medium-sized enterprises in the EU, the development of e-commerce in the EU);
• making tables and graphs for various publications using official European Commission data sources and non-official data;
• proof-reading text in mother tongue.

No experience required - post would suit University graduate looking for first job.

To start: between November 2002 and January 2003.

Initial contract: 6 months (with view to an indeterminate contract upon satisfactory completion of this period)

Place of work: Luxembourg (possibility of working in Bruxelles for first 3 months - afterwards, the post is likely to move to Luxembourg)

We are always pleased to receive CVs from people with the following profile:

• economists with a knowledge of basic statistical methods (our work involves analysis and some very basic estimations of time series) and the main PC software packages under a Windows environment such as Word and Excel. A knowledge of databases such as Access or Oracle is also an advantage. An awareness and interest in European socio-economic affairs is essential.

• number lovers with a knowledge of basic statistical methods. A knowledge of database design and management using packages such as Access or Oracle is a must and experience of programming is an advantage.

• programmers with strengths in some or all of the following areas: database design and management (Access, Oracle or FAME), network management, web technology (HTML, JavaScript), electronic publishing (Quark Xpress, Adobe), programming (Visual Basic). A basic knowledge of UNIX is an advantage.

To speak at least one of the following languages is a must:
